Midfoot Conditions

Midfoot Region

The midfoot is a stable area of the foot that contains multiple joints working together to provide shock absorption and weight transfer from the heel to the toes. Many tendons that originate from the lef attach to the midfoot. Finding the reason for pain in this area becomes essential and might require the adequate imaging.

Tarsal Coalition

Tarsal coalitions are a complex and often underdiagnosis conditions. They involves the abnormal fusion or connection of two or more bones within the tarsal (hindfoot) region of the foot. The most common types of tarsal coalitions occur between the calcaneus (heel bone) and the talus (ankle bone) or between the calcaneus and the navicular bone.

Osteo-Arthritis

Osteoarthritis of the midfoot is a degenerative joint condition involving the gradual breakdown of cartilage in the midfoot joints, causing pain, spurs and nerve compression on top of the foot. High arched feed are particularly prone to this condition.

Flat Feet

Flat feet, or fallen arches, are a common condition where the arches on the inside of the feet are flattened. This structural anomaly can be present from birth or develop over time due to various factors. It is not always painful and it doesn’t always require interventions. Regular podiatric check-ups are essential, ensuring early detection of potential complications and the implementation of personalized management strategies.

Pes Cavus (High arched feet)

High-arched feet, or pes cavus, is a foot condition characterized by an exaggerated arch in the sole. This structural variation can lead to issues like foot pain on specific structures like peroneal tendons or sesamoid bones; it may also lead to the instability of your ankles and repetitive sprains.

Accessory Navicular

Accessory navicular is an extra bone located on the inner side of the foot, near the navicular bone. This congenital anomaly is present from birth and may not cause issues for everyone, but some individuals may experience discomfort and foot pain. The accessory navicular can lead to conditions such as posterior tibial tendonitis due to increased stress on the posterior tibial tendon. Early detection and appropriate podiatric care are essential for preventing complications and improving foot function. We work collaboratively with you and other health professionals to develop a personalised treatment plans, ensuring optimal foot health and minimizing the impact of accessory navicular on daily activities and overall well-being.

Posterior Tibialis Dysfunction

Posterior Tibialis Dysfunction (PTTD) is a significant concern within the field of podiatry, and its recognition and treatment are vital to maintaining proper foot function. PTTD occurs when the posterior tibialis tendon, a crucial tendon running along the inner side of the ankle and foot, becomes weakened or damaged. This tendon is responsible for supporting the arch of the foot and controlling foot movement during walking. When it is impaired, it can lead to a painful condition known as adult-acquired flatfoot.

Tendinopathies

Depending on your foot type, the footwear you use, your daily activities and work; some of your foot tendons might be overworking. We are here to help if one of your foot tendons get injured or overused.
